The Audi A7 Sets the Bar

If first impressions make lasting impressions then the sleek, aerodynamic contours of the Audi A7 sets the tone for a well appointed, precision ride befitting the Preferred Man, or in this case, woman of distinction.
For this assignment, I was afforded the pleasure of a 2014 Audi A7 TDI with Tiptronic automatic transmission for a 4-day long test drive. Well played Audi – after a weekend of living with the fully loaded, fuel-efficient 3.0 turbocharged V6 diesel sedan with the S-line sport package, the family consensus was an easy to negotiate, highly intuitive performance vehicle with all the trimmings.
Aesthetically, the A7 is a definite showstopper. Urban to suburban, the well-integrated luxury brand with the aggressive front grill and LED running lights, unique hatchback profile, and clean lines has stellar curb appeal. On the road, the A7 exudes confidence and commands attention. However, the sedan with the sporty coupe like appearance is more than just an eye-catching, handsome head-turner. As the epitome of the Preferred luxury vehicle, it is what’s on the inside of this German engineered beauty that counts.
Based on the footprint of the A6 sedan, the A7 TDI delivers a seamless ride over rough road conditions. Equipped with the Quattro all-wheel-drive system, the agile drive of the A7 hugs the road without upsetting the composure of the interior cabin. The 3-liter turbo diesel V6 engine generates 240 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque, and boasts an impressive fuel economy of 8.5 L/100km city and 5.3 L/100 km highway. Trending now is the attractive fuel cost savings of a diesel-powered A7 TDI engine that delivers both power and efficiency.
With the basic tech specs for this vehicle duly noted, the safety features and interior design of the Audi A7 ooze opulence, refinement, and piece of mind. The Audi A7 comes equipped with a long list of standard and optional safety technologies including: Audi lane assist (warns drivers if the vehicle is about to exit its lane unintentionally – over 60 kmh); advanced parking system with corner view camera; night vision assistant (thermal imaging camera system); and head-up display (helps to keep your eyes on the road).
With outstanding drive performance and safety features in check, it was the interior cabin of our test-drive Audi A7 TDI that tipped the scales in favour of the ultimate luxury drive experience. The finishes were class personified. The cockpit like cabin with wrap around carbon fibre; the supple leather upholstery; the 3 spoke heated steering wheel with the race car feel; the front S-line sport seats that comfortably hug your body with cooling capacity; the pop-up MMI navigation screen; and the Bang & Olufsen sound system with 15 speakers – among other superior elements – all combined to create an exceptional vehicle of stand-above caliber.
So, what was the overall take on our weekend with Audi? The Audi A7 TDI is the perfect balance of performance, efficiency and luxury built with the Preferred driver in mind.
