In a city that boasts a broad spectrum of restaurants from haute cuisine to good eats, TOCA at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Toronto is stepping up its already succulent game Italian style.
Under the direction of consulting, two Star Michelin Chef Oliver Glowig, the team at TOCA has revamped its eclectic Mediterranean menu to be predominantly Italian. Featuring favorites of the German born chef with a deep passion for the Campania region of Italy, the revised menu brings a fresh and authentic Italian flare to the already popular Toronto dining staple. TOCA’s new signature line-up is a carefully crafted offering of local seasonal ingredients infused with a few Italian imports.
The renowned chef of Ristorante Oliver Glowig in Rome will be a regular feature at TOCA following a stint of pop-ups as a guest chef over the year. Bringing his signature style, creative touch to the TOCA table, patrons savour such Glowig specialties as lightly cooked scampi with artichoke hearts and burrata; homemade ravioli capresi stuffed with a caciotta (a creamy cheese sourced and made specifically for the Ritz Carleton), marjoram, cherry tomato, and fresh basil sauce; and a Glowig take on Mac and Cheese featuring mixed pasta with potatoes, lobster, and smoked mozzarella.
Still hungry? No problem, Chef Glowig and team TOCA have fashioned a generous offering of mouthwatering mains to satiate any appetite. On the menu: melt-in-your-mouth tender braised beef cheeks served on a bed of olive oil mashed potatoes with fried leeks – delicious, as well as larger plate selection Tagliata di Fiorentina – a dry-aged 32oz steak “Fiorentina” that is perfect for sharing. Rounding out the culinary tastes of TOCA, wine director Taylor Thompson has a fine palate for pairing the perfect liquid nectar to any menu selection.
An outstanding menu is only made better by incredible ambience. TOCA’s wood paneled dining room, private dining tables and kitchen side chef’s table create a warm and elegant space enhanced by unique and carefully appointed extras such as Canada’s only Cheese Cave, with over 35 varieties of cheeses from all around the world, including a large selection of local Canadian cheeses.
This Preferred recommendation: take a taste of TOCA and indulge in the culinary artistry of a master chef and his Italian inspired menu that brings the flavours of Italy home to Toronto. www.ritzcarlton.com
