CÉSAR RITZ WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD!
The Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Wellington Street in the heart of downtown Toronto has been named to the renowned, annual Forbes Travel Guide’s Five-Star Rating List. The 263-room property is the latest addition to the prestigious rankings that have been considered the gold standard in luxury hospitality since 1958. Opened in 2011, The Ritz-Carlton, Toronto is one of only two Canadian hotels added to the rankings this year.
The Ritz-Carlton hotel company had its roots in the person of César Ritz (1850-1918) who earned worldwide recognition for the luxurious hotels bearing his name that opened in London, England and Paris, France. During those times, these magnificent buildings were certainly not the first to cater to upscale clients. However, Ritz’s hotels quickly earned reputations as go-to destinations and ‘playgrounds’ for the affluent. So it’s not surprising that, in 1920, the adjective ritzy (describing either something fancy or stylish or the haughty attitudes of the wealthy or elite) first appeared in English dictionaries. In honour of this recent achievement, and to celebrate its fifth anniversary, the Ritz-Carlton, Toronto is offering five unique experiences.
Art Lovers is an insider’s guide to Toronto’s art scene, including a one-on-one painting workshop with the hotel’s resident artist. Foodie Fantasy is an overnight stay in the hotel’s premium Simcoe Suite with a culinary tour of the city, followed by dinner prepared by its chef using ingredients collected that day. Cloud 9 offers a soothing retreat at Spa My Blend by Clarins, featuring personalized Art of Touch massages and custom My Blend facials.
The VIP experience is a memorable stay in the Ritz-Carlton Suite with in-suite dinner by its executive chef, and scented bath in the suite’s free-standing bathtub featuring a luxurious 1,000-lb. onyx backdrop. Finally, the Ultimate Cheese Lovers experience is a sumptuous dinner at the exclusive Chef’s Table inside the award-winning TOCA Restaurant with Sommelier’s guided tour and tasting at Toronto’s only guest-accessible Cheese Cave.
