Member Spotlight: Chef Luciano Schipano
- Tell us about your journey! Where did it begin and what brought you to where you are today?
I was born in Canada and raised in southern Italy, where my passion for people, culture, and entrepreneurship blossomed at a young age. By eleven, I was already buying and selling goods, driven by curiosity and the joy of connecting with others. My early involvement in public service—as a candidate in provincial elections, member of my city hall’s executive committee, and volunteer with non-profit organizations—deepened my understanding of leadership and community.
I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with honours in Tourism and Economics, along with a diploma in Culinary Arts and Management. Upon returning to Canada, however, my degrees weren’t recognized, prompting me to reconnect fully with my culinary roots. This unexpected turn became a blessing—fueling my determination to build something meaningful and authentic. Today, I proudly own five businesses across hospitality, catering, culinary tourism, and education, each reflecting my commitment to excellence, community, and cultural authenticity.
- Was there a defining moment or challenge that shaped who you are as a professional?
The most defining moment of my professional life was losing my job during the pandemic. This unexpected crisis forced me to reevaluate everything—not just professionally, but personally. It was during this time that I learned to embrace my authenticity, making decisions driven by purpose rather than fear. This challenge sharpened my resilience and reinforced my belief that real leadership requires adaptability, honesty, and empathy. It transformed me from a chef into a stronger entrepreneur and community leader.

- Who or what has inspired you most in your life and/or career?
My greatest inspiration has always been my mother. She managed our family kitchen with joy, determination, and resilience. From her, I learned that food is much more than sustenance—it’s love, culture, and connection. Her unwavering optimism still guides my approach to business and life today. Additionally, I’m profoundly inspired by the immigrant experience—the courage, sacrifice, and determination of those who rebuild their lives from scratch. Honoring this journey motivates everything I do professionally and personally.

- What does being part of CIBPA mean to you?
Being part of CIBPA is deeply meaningful for me. It represents a community where cultural heritage meets professional excellence. As someone passionate about building connections and supporting others, I value how CIBPA fosters relationships, promotes leadership, and celebrates our Italian-Canadian identity. It’s more than just networking—it’s about legacy-building and collective success. Contributing to and benefiting from such a vibrant community aligns perfectly with my personal and professional values. - What legacy do you hope to leave behind in your profession, community, etc.?
I hope to be remembered as more than just a chef or entrepreneur—I want to be seen as someone who used food, culture, and connection to uplift others. Whether it’s through my businesses, my non-profit work, or community initiatives, I strive to create spaces where people feel seen, supported, and inspired. I believe in building a legacy of excellence rooted in values: integrity, inclusivity, and cultural pride. If I’ve empowered others to believe in themselves, to take risks, or to embrace their roots, then I’ve done my job. - If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to never dim your light to make others comfortable. Be unapologetically yourself. The road won’t always be easy—but your authenticity, your passion, and your willingness to lead from the heart will take you far. And remember: the best investment you’ll ever make is in people. Build relationships, lift others up, and stay humble. Success is sweeter when it’s shared.
