As we slowly move out of Covid living, the fashion runways showcasing trends for menswear in Winter 2022 highlight a return to business as usual. Regardless of whether colder months will bring about more lockdowns (let’s hope not!) investing in well-made pieces brings a dose of endorphins and feelings of excitement and hope. A return to working from the office heralds the return of classic menswear in suits, overcoats and warm hues and shades.

SUIT UP

As life begins to return to normal, we see a return to necessary luxury in a flawless tailored suit where designers are experimenting and reinventing the very principles of tailoring in suits and many couture designers showed the return of tailored looks and suits with traditional lapels.

TRENCH COATS
are back

Of course, trench coats are nothing new – indeed the Spring/Summer 2021 collections highlighted redos on the classic outerwear staple that is the trenchcoat. Winter 2022 is about going back to basics and the trenchcoat remains a timeless fashion statement.

Think statement-making raincoats finished with flaps and buckles – a throwback to trench coats worn by PIs or military officers. The best of this season’s trenches can be found at Louis Vuitton, where Virgil Abloh showed his extra-oversized, Dries Van Noten and Fendi.

CHOCOLATE,
CAPPUCCINO
AND CHARCOAL

The Winter 2022 colour palette has hues of browns and charcoal greys that have traditionally been presented in the winter season and connote strength, warmth and stability.

Designers and labels are rejecting the idea that brown and grey can’t be paired and worn together. A quick peek at the latest collections shows that bringing chocolate and charcoal together is on point. This year we see monochromatic layering in knits including polo neck sweaters and turtlenecks.

Here’s to 2022 being the year where we return to a new normal – face to face business lunches, post-work cocktails and weekend getaways to ski and apres-ski.
