The CN Tower is the western hemisphere’s highest free-standing building, towering at 553 metres (1,815 feet). Classified as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers in 1991, the CN Tower is one of Toronto’s most popular attractions for visitors and people of all ages.
While you can see the CN Tower from practically any place in the city, visiting the Tower in person provides the ideal views for that essential Instagram shot. In the upcoming new year, you may want to plan a visit to Canada’s national symbol as it recently received a $21 million investment from the Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Public Services and Minister responsible for Canada Lands Company.
Canada Lands’ investment of $21 million will provide visitors with a new experience to explore and discover at one of our country’s most beloved attractions, and give Toronto the boost it deserves
states the Honourable Anita Anand. 16
The CN Tower’s Outdoor Terrace Level will be modernized thanks to Canada Lands’ investment, which will increase year-round indoor viewing capacity, extend indoor observation, and provide a new and uninterrupted glass floor. With the advancements in structural glass since the original glass floor was installed, larger, seamless panels create a more dramatic effect.
Modernizing the Outdoor Terrace Level will take the Tower experience to the next level while enhancing accessibility for visitors to enjoy the space year-round
affirmed Peter George, Chief Operating Officer, CN Tower.
In addition, the recently renovated space, which is located 113 stories above Toronto, will include state-of-the-art interactive video walls to enhance guest engagement and experience.
Improved accessibility is one of the key aims of the redesigned space set to open in summer 2022. Robert Howald, President and CEO, Canada Lands Company, expressed, “As its proud owner and manager, Canada Lands Company continuously innovates and invests in the CN Tower to offer enriching, world-class experiences. It marks another exciting chapter in the CN Tower’s history as a national icon and celebration destination.”

The CN Tower’s second phase of renovations builds on the magnificent $16 million Main Observation Level renovation completed in 2018. The Main Observation Level now has floor-to-ceiling glass ‘Window Walls,’ which increase accessibility while providing near-seamless and unobstructed panoramic views of Toronto. An all-new Glass Floor has been installed on this level, directly above the original (installed in 1994) located one floor below. This new experience provides a dramatic, two-tier vertical view 346 metres (1,136 feet) straight down.
The CN Tower was delighted to welcome back guests to its observations level and EdgeWalk this July after a suspension of operations of more than nine months. EdgeWalk is the first of its kind in North America and the most exhilarating attraction in the CN Tower’s history. On a 5 ft (1.5 m) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower’s main pod, 356m/1168ft (116 floors) above the earth, it is the world’s highest full circle hands-free walk. The EdgeWalk is an Ontario and Canadian Signature Experience. John Tory, Mayor of Toronto, expressed the following about the investment:
I want to thank Canada Lands for investing in the Tower and for helping us make sure Toronto and its tourism industry comes back stronger than ever. This is one more example of the good things we can accomplish when we work together and when we invest in Toronto – Canada’s economic engine.
Canada’s National Tower is an engineering marvel and has been a ‘must-see’ attraction in Toronto for nearly four decades. While nothing beats experiencing it in person, their CN Tower Earth Cam gives you a glimpse of the vista from the top, and nightly light shows are available on @cntower on Instagram.
