Winter is right around the corner, and with it, the biggest holiday season of the year. Everyone wants to look their best during this time of get-togethers, which means now’s the time to check in on trending men’s fashion.
If you’re wondering what you should wear this season, I scoured the new collections and runways so you don’t have to. Here are my tips for winter 2023 men’s fashion.
A return to classics
In 2022, suits for men were tailored in hourglass shapes, as Dior, Vetements, and Dunhill perhaps most notably demonstrated. This year, however, designers are returning to classic tailoring, which is great news since classically tailored suits are always in style no matter what the year.
Another timeless classic that will do well this year is tailored button-downs, which will last for years and can always be worn in cool weather. For options that come in different fits to match your body type, try Peter Millar.
What to wear if you’re not sure
If you’re unsure whether an event is going to be formal or casual, chinos are always a good way to hedge your bets. This is especially true if they are tailored to fit your body well.
Leather Chelsea boots also never go out of style. You can wear them with jeans and a T-shirt or a full-tailored suit. They go with literally any look.
New trends to play with
For men, purple is definitely one of the trendiest colors this season. Incorporating it into holiday outfits can be easy — think shirts and ties — and will add a nice touch of color. Green and red are always classic, but purple is a fun new possibility to add this season. Check out the Armani, Fendi, and Dries Van Noten runway shows for examples.
In addition, grunge is definitely in! We are seeing lots of plaid, flannel, and distressed clothing on the runways. Adding a beanie to your outfit is another easy way to hook into this trend. For an example, check out Christian Bale wearing one.
Meanwhile, big fashion houses are encouraging men to break free of conventional clothing restrictions. Dior, Hed Mayner, Ludovic Saint Sernin, and Etro all incorporated skirts into their winter 2023 runway shows. Check out Robert Pattinson wearing a skirt at the Dior fashion show in Paris, for instance. Dresses are out for men this year, however.
While letterman jackets and puffer jackets were big in 2022, these were completely missing from the shows this year. Instead, Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, and Prada all had bomber jackets on the runway, so put your high school letterman jackets away!
Have fun and express yourself
Personal style never goes out of style. While partaking in trends is fun, it’s important to stay true to yourself and wear only what feels authentic.
Remember, fashion is supposed to be a form of self-expression, so don’t overthink it. If you want to wear it, go for it!
