Preferred Magazine had the opportunity to sit down with Sako to learn more about the man –popularly known as ‘the King of Diamonds’ – and his stardom of exquisite diamonds.
HOW DID YOUR PASSION FOR DIAMOND JEWELLERY BEGIN?
My journey started when I came to Canada from Lebanon over thirty years ago. I worked and learned from different jewellery businesses, which helped me to realize there was nothing else I would rather do. One of my greatest mentors was Michael Sapir, who reatly supported me. I believe in any industry, it’s important to learn from others who are successful within that industry. My love of diamonds and creating jewellery continues to stay with me and is constantly growing.
YOU ARE A CUSTOM JEWELLERY DESIGNER. WHERE DO YOU CREATE YOUR PIECES OF JEWELLERY?
I design and manufacture in Canada and source my diamonds from top-quality and ethical suppliers. We offer competitive and unbeatable prices in both Canadian and internationally certified diamonds. At Diamond by Sako, you can find a wide selection of unique jewellery, rings, and tennis bracelets. I review every detail to ensure 100% satisfaction with the final design. The dedication to my customers’ needs is second to none.
YOU ARE ALSO A DIAMOND WHOLESALER. WHO DO YOU DISTRIBUTE TO?
Yes, we have two divisions of the brand. Our wholesale division distributes diamond and gold jewellery to retailers across Canada. Our customers range from upscale boutiques to well-known chain jewellery stores in places like malls, etc. The other division is Diamond by Sako; this is the diamond jewellery that I design and sell. Both divisions are known for the most superior diamonds and gems on the market.
TELL ME ABOUT THE QUALITY OF YOUR DIAMONDS AND HOW YOU SOURCE THEM?
I source only the highest-quality diamonds from the finest and most ethical sources. Most of my diamond jewellery comes from Italy and overseas.
WHAT SETS YOU APART FROM OTHER CUSTOM JEWELLERY DESIGNERS?
My innovative design and style. We use techniques and cuts never seen before in the jewellery business. I travel extensively around the world in search of the most stunning and one-of-a-kind jewellery available. I am always up to date with the latest trends, and I select unique pieces, mainly from Italy, for my clients. From loose diamonds to the fanciest tennis necklaces, I value fine jewellery.
HOW DO YOU DEFINE YOURSELF?
I am a creator who values quality and creativity above all else. Diamonds are my life, and my business gives me the opportunity to express my creativity and individuality by creating diamond jewellery that people love and feel confident wearing. My love for quality and the finer things in life, obsession with creativity, and need to express the unique designs that I conceive make me passionate about what I do.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU? IS THERE A PARTICULAR PERSON OR PLACE YOU GRAVITATE TOWARDS?
I am inspired by nature and the past royals who expressed themselves through their fashion and style. Royals from across the eras sported diamonds and jewellery that told a story about who they were, their status and family background. Each unique piece of jewellery has a story behind it. It’s through style and fashion that people tell their unique life stories. You can tell a lot about a person based on the jewellery they choose to embellish themselves with.
I also find myself being inspired by nature. Diamonds are pure and natural, and I love to see how they can transform into rings, earrings, tennis bracelets, and necklaces that bring so much pleasure into people’s lives.
WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST CHALLENGING OBSTACLE YOU HAVE FACED THUS FAR IN YOUR CAREER, AND HOW DO YOU OVERCOME IT?
My most challenging and rewarding obstacle comes from my desire to constantly innovate and create unique pieces that stand apart from other jewellery on the market today. Also, searching and sourcing the best quality to ensure we use only the most sought-after and rarest diamonds in our designs.
WHAT IS THE GREATEST RECOGNITION OF YOUR WORK SO FAR? HAVE YOU WORKED WITH ANY CELEBRITIES?
Yes, international celebrities have purchased and worn my pieces. Some celebrities who have worn my jewellery are Karl Wolf and Mia Martina.

I am so passionate about my craft, and I wear diamonds every day. I love embellishing my fashion style with diamonds and have become recognized as always sporting diamonds. People noticed and started calling me the “King of Diamonds,” and the name stuck.
